ECOSOC Elections for UNPFII membership In the elections that occurred in ECOSOC on 16 July for the replacement of the Ms Xiaomei Qin from the Asia/Pacific region after the end of this year, the result was: Mr Eugenio A. Insigne (Philippines) 22 votes Ambassador Berenado Vunibobo (Fiji) 18 votes Thus, Mr. Eugenio A. Insigne from the Philippines, will become a member of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues as of 1 January 2009.

The Kalinga Geothermal Service Contract (GSC) was signed
The Kalinga Geothermal Service Contract (GSC) was signed between the Department of Energy and the Aragorn Power and Energy Corporation (APEC) and the Guidance Management Corporation September 24, 2008. Representing the DOE was Secretary Angelo Reyes and the APEC and GMC were Willy Ocier and Joaquin Rodriguez. The Geothermal Contract covers an area of 26,250 hectares in the Municipalities of Lubuagan, Pasil, and Tinglayan and for a duration of fifty years. Five years exploration period plus two years extension and twenty five years production plus eighteen years extension.
